Hello fellow Strong Moms! I am delighted to shift my focus to a topic that I am passionate about. While I do enjoy homeschooling, there are so many voices out there that I felt my voice was getting drowned out. With my new column I will be focusing more on the moms than the kids. I hope to help you see that YOU are an amazing woman of light.

I chose light because of one of my favorite quotes. It’s rather well-known, and maybe it’s your favorite as well. It’s by Marianne Williamson and reads as follows:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson

What does it mean to be a woman of light? What does that phrase bring to mind?

Let’s look at some characteristics of light:

  • Light chases darkness away.
  • Light often brings warmth.
  • Light draws people to it.
  • Light is inviting and happy.
  • Light helps you to see the way.
  • When you add light to light the intensity gets stronger and brighter.
  • Light can be artistic and fun. It can be subtle, or blingy and colorful.
  • Light helps things grow.
  • Light has a far reach.
  • Light is no respecter of persons, it shines on everyone.

Those are just a few that come to mind immediately. And I believe any mother who is trying to be a good mom emanates many of the same qualities. I also believe that these qualities are gifts from our Creator, God, Heavenly Father. Whatever you may call Him, He is present in our lives and His light and influence shines naturally through us as we nurture and love our children. And we have the ability to increase the light we have and share.

What qualities of light do you currently have? Take a look inside yourself and see the good you do and are. Each month moving forward I will share ways we can let our light shine bright as well as examples of women who are doing just that. Keep being your glorious self!
