All families have stories — sometimes embellished, sometimes stripped down, sometimes funny, sometimes anything but funny — that are passed from generation to generation. Oral storytelling has been part of human existence since the dawn of time. They are the ties that bind us to each other.
These words have stayed with me many years later. “She is not unknown to me.” I am glad that my beloved Grandma Kimball is “known.”
I want my children connected to who they really are, connected to our family, connected to their ancestors – so connected that they know an entire host of people are loving them and cheering them on.
I believe with all my heart that knowing and sharing family stories can strengthen us when times are hard.
