In the stillness, I remember Him. I honor Him. And I reach out across the centuries to Mary, His mother, with my mama’s heart with gratitude for bearing and raising the Son of God.

My heart embraces the nostalgia of Christmas memories and I’m increasingly recognizing the importance of writing them down. Our memories may fade with time, but the written word and photographs can make it seem like things were just yesterday.
One of my earliest jobs was as a cashier at a grocery store. Now, decades later, I remember that there were customers that I loved having in my line because they were friendly. There were also a few that I would literally hide from because they would ruin my day, they were so nasty and mean. I remember how much I appreciated being treated like a person and how much I appreciated it when I was treated with kindness.

This year, I’ve found myself more anxious and more out of sorts than I normally am. I’ve needed to address the mom stress directly, especially going into the holiday season. I meditate. I breathe. I journal. I manage expectations – my own and others’. And I use music.
Mothers, you need to receive gifts because you are seen! You are loved! You matter so much! I hope you will search and find the holiness of this season through not only giving, but being willing to receive gifts from others even if they aren’t wrapped or put under a tree.
