When someone says the word “peace”, what comes to mind for you? Do you have a favorite place that’s peaceful? An activity that brings you peace? What about peaceful music you enjoy?
What comes to your mind when someone says “homeschool”? Are the thoughts similar to those when you think of peace? If your family is anything like mine that’s a big fat NOPE. I picture more of a crazy zoo with lots of stress and messes.

I have had friends this past year who are new to homeschooling say “I don’t know how you do it! I want to send them all back to school, I’m losing my mind!” And believe me, I get it, it can be pretty difficult to teach kids, keep the house kind of clean, be the chef, drive around to activities, etc. Homeschooling is busy, you’re with your kids all the time, and often they can give you a hard time about getting their school work done. You may at times think “WHEN CAN I JUST GET ONE MINUTE OF PEACE TO MYSELF?!”
Well, guess what mama, I’m here to tell you that the answer is never, unless you schedule it. Make time in your life for some peace. I personally prefer to do that around 5am. I get up and go out to my desk and spend at least 5 minutes in complete silence, listening to my breath. I then move into positive affirmations, looking at my goals for the day, studying my scriptures, and getting a little exercise in. Sounds magical, doesn’t it? It IS, that’s why I choose to get up. I’m not naturally a morning person but I decided to make this time because I need to show up as my best self for my kids.
Maybe your peaceful time would be when the kids are napping or watching a show mid-day. Maybe it’s at night after everyone is in bed and you snuggle on the couch with your favorite blanket and a good book. Those things that came to mind when you thought of peace, make time for them every day. You will be amazed at what it does for your relationships with your children, your spouse, and anyone else you interact with. Take time for you mama, because so many people rely on you but you can’t be who and what they need if you don’t take care of yourself.
What are some of your favorite ways to find peace?
