A friend of mine was sitting around the dinner table with her family, and her daughter decided to announce that she wanted a haircut! She knew exactly what she wanted, communicated it, and my friend (being a licensed cosmetologist) went downstairs after dinner, and did what her daughter wanted! No questions asked!

I was intrigued by this, so I reached out to my friend. We had a beautiful and wonderful chat about giving our children the grace to make their own choices. Choosing how they style their hair, choosing the outfits they wear, so that one day, they can grow up to become the type of person who doesn’t hesitate to go after what they want. They choose, they communicate, they execute. And they feel respected for their choices.
We had such a beautiful conversation about this, that I decided it needed to be recorded and made into a podcast episode. I could try to reiterate everything that was said here… or? You could go give it a listen. It’s one of my all-time favorite episodes.
Let’s give our children the grace to make mistakes. To choose for themselves. To fall, to fail, and to become the type of person that is confident enough to choose for themselves and communicate their choices effectively. ️
It’s well worth the listen. You’re welcome in advance.

says:Thanks for the reminder to offer grace to our children- to allow them opportunities to communicate their wants, needs, hopes, & dreams in a respectful and effective way — allowing them to choose and then go through the process of learning from their choices. It’s a hard thing to do sometimes, but I know it’s a really important skill for little ones to practice and develop 🙂♥️
