Tired of trying to willpower your way through life-only to beat yourself up when you fall short? I was too until I discovered “The Word Effect”. I had become sick and tired of being sick and tired of wanting to change my story to create the life I had secretly desired to live. Once I began to ask God if I had the power within me to change my story…he put this thought in my heart: “Change your words!”
I remember thinking, “change my words…what is wrong with my words?” Well over the last 7 years I have discovered how my thinking was off. I never realized how powerful words are. Words have been and are the creative force of the universe” and it was time for me to put them to work in my life!
Before I realized how Words Matter— I was waiting and waiting for something to change and became stuck with words like procrastination, self-pity, perfectionism–the effect of living in willpower. I decided I was going to take charge of my story and asked this simple question: How do I change my words?
At first, I didn’t know what that meant—change my words. It was almost too simple of a solution to fix all of my life’s problems…but what I was doing, living in willpower wasn’t working. So I became willing to try. I then heard a documentary that said put these words in your life and see what happens. It was right after the time I had the simple thought to change my words. The documentary offered this idea, to put these words on: “I
accept myself unconditionally, right now”. The documentary challenged me to say it to myself 5 times in the morning, 5 times during the day, and 5 times in the evening. Say it out loud if possible but in your mind is okay too. Just be consistent with it—and see what happens.
I decided it was time to try and to be honest. Nothing marvelous or miraculous happened at first. I just started. And like so many things, when I don’t get an immediate result, I tend to quit and think that was silly or a waste of time. With this simple exercise, God had whispered to change my words—so I continued even when I didn’t see the value of it.
Over time those words have completely transformed my life to become the person I am today. All through becoming a bit more aware of the words I put on. Putting on words is like exercising your soul—the inside of you. It takes some consistent effort but the effect is so worth it!
What words did you put on this morning as you were getting ready for the day? If you don’t remember, notice what thoughts you have about yourself and your life tomorrow morning as you brush your teeth. Do you like those thoughts? Do you want to change them? We can go into
our closets and spend a lot of time deciding the right dress or outfit to wear for this occasion or that. We think about what we put on physically but do we think about what we put on internally?
Have you even thought that you have the choice to decide what you put on internally? Our thoughts are optional—even though some of our thoughts are so normal—even though they are negative—we feel comfortable putting them on. It is what we know. We have learned to believe them—those negative thoughts that don’t serve us. We can learn to believe new thoughts and discover how to put them on…and the results of living in word power are 100% better than any results I got living in willpower. There were several thoughts that I was putting on that I have found just weren’t serving me. By saying “I accept myself unconditionally, right now” it helped me put on a new thought. I was okay just the way I was right then. It helped me “put on love” for myself and that has changed my life.
